What Exactly is Physical Therapy? Here’s How It Can Help with Pain and Movement

Introduction
Ever wondered what physical therapy is all about? Physical therapy is basically a hands-on way to help people get moving better, ease pain, and recover from injuries. If you’re dealing with pain—whether it’s from an old injury or just everyday wear and tear—physical therapy can be a game-changer for getting back on track.

How Physical Therapy Works
Physical therapy is all about using movement to help your body heal. Therapists come up with exercises and stretches tailored to your needs, making it easier to move without pain and reducing the chances of hurting yourself again. Each plan is designed just for you, which makes a big difference in getting you back to doing what you love.

Why It’s Great for Pain Relief
One of the best things about physical therapy? It can help with all kinds of pain, whether it’s recent or something you’ve been dealing with for a while. Physical therapists use a mix of techniques to relieve tension, improve mobility, and make everyday movement more comfortable—without relying on meds.

Keeping You Strong and Injury-Free
Physical therapy isn’t just about recovery; it’s about prevention too. By strengthening your muscles and improving flexibility, it lowers your chances of future injuries. Staying active without pain is the goal, and physical therapy can help you keep moving comfortably for the long haul.

Why don’t we contract with insurance?

The truth of the insurance world is that it does not have the patient or the provider’s best interest at heart.

I worked in insurance based settings for about 3 years after I graduated from physical therapy school. They continue to drop reimbursement rates leaving the therapists scrambling to cram more patients into an 8-10 hour day. This leaves the patient with a therapist who is burnt out and not as diligent with their care. The patient also doesn’t get a great deal because insurance will deny more visits every chance they get.

This doesn’t even mention deductibles. Did you know that Physical Therapy is considered a specialty in healthcare? Because of this, there is often a co-pay involved and if you have not met your deductible, you will pay out of pocket for each session which can range from $120-250. Imagine going 3x per week for a couple of months and getting a full bill at the end of that????

PT clinics do not know how much the insurance will pay so they have no idea what to tell the patient in regards to how much their bill will be.

In summary

1. Deductibles are high, so costs for therapy are already high for patients (unless you meet your deductible due to surgery).

2. Insurance does not reimburse therapists well, leaving them having to see multiple patients per hour.

3. 3x weekly is not necessary for quality care.

We see patients at a 1x weekly or bi weekly basis for 1 hour with tailored exercise programs given between sessions. There are no guessing games with payment either, you know exactly what you are getting when you pay for a package of sessions.

Our packages range from $170-190 per session depending on how many you need to make a full recovery, so you will be paying less than most clinics charge insurance companies and you will not have to come in 3x per week.
